Members of CUPE 1251 have ratified the tentative agreement reached Friday, 25 October 2003 between the union and the provincial government.

CUPE 1251 held a ratification vote over the weekend, 62 per cent of the total membership of the local voted in favor of the agreement.

“The value of the agreement is worth between 14 and 15 per cent over a 4 and a half-year agreement”, said CUPE 1251 president Danny Légère.

“The custodians are going back to work as soon as possible this afternoon, they will be cleaning around the clock so that the colleges can reopen its doors on Monday morning”, said Légère.

CUPE 1251 represents about 533 correctional officers, community custodians and human resources officers. Local 1251 went on strike on October 3rd to obtain pay parity.
