Civic workers in Cranbrook took strike action February 24 after City Council rejected a mediator’s recommendations for settlement. The City is demanding major concessions that would effectively destroy hard-won sick leave benefits.

While it appeared that the local’s bargaining committee had convinced the City’s negotiation team to withdraw the concessions, city council maintained its hard line. The 100 members of CUPE 2090 are determined to defend their current contract language.
