FREDERICTON CUPE will announce the results of a strike vote by the provinces 65 court stenographers on Monday, Sept. 11, at a 10:30 a.m. news conference in the Pool Lounge at the Fredericton Motor Inn.

The stenos are paid thousands of dollars less than employees with less responsibility. They have the backing of judges and police across the province who say they are the backbone of the judicial system.

Premier Lord has promised to treat them fairly, but there has been no sign of fairness by government negotiators at the bargaining table or through the conciliation process.

A deadlock in negotiations has been declared and CUPE Local 1840, representing the stenos, will be in a legal strike position later this month.
