      Convention Today
      Setting Strategic Directions

Over two days, delegates have shared their ideas and input on Strategic Directions. Today, delegates will vote on an updated version of our plan for the next two years.

Members of a National Executive Board subcommittee have listened to and integrated delegate comments into a final draft of Strategic Directions.

Strategic Directions sets our union’s broad priorities. Together with convention resolutions on specific issues, it establishes a workplan for our union.

The plan sets out how we will make gains in our workplaces and communities, fight racism and discrimination in all its forms, defend public services, and advocate for a better country and world.

Society must fight Islamophobia, says Awada

From enslaved domestic to UN spokesperson
Eni Lestari could never have imagined where her life would take her when she was forced to leave her home in Indonesia in 1999.Like millions of other young women around the world, Lestari left her country to support her family. She arrived in Hong Kong through a domestic workers agency that lied to her about her basic rights and placed her with a family that paid her well below their legal obligation, refused to give her a day off and provided her only a blanket on the floor to sleep.

Moving from ‘anti-racist’ to pro-racial equality
United Kingdom labour activist Zita Holbourne says it’s not enough to be anti-racist: the true activist ally must be for racial equality as well. In an interview with CUPE Communications, the national vice-president of the Public and Commercial Services Union shared several insights on how to do this effectively.
