(Peterborough) - Contract talks between the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPRDSB) and the union representing some 1,200 school board workers resume today, this time with the help of a Conciliator from the Ministry of Labour.

Bargaining between CUPE 5555 and the KPRDSB began in April. Both sides have met 16 times with little substantive progress being made to date.

CUPE represents custodial and maintenance workers, secretarial staff, educational assistants, professional and para-professional support staff throughout the school board.

The school board workers have not had a raise in nine years. Outstanding issues include harmonization of wage rates, a wage increase, benefits, seniority, job postings, layoff and recall, hours of work and more

Local 5555 has scheduled a strike vote for this Sunday, August 27. It is being held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Port Hope, 99 Toronto Street, at 2:00 p.m.

(EDITORS: Strike vote results will be available by 4:30 p.m., Sunday.)
