Without a contract since late 2015, the Syndicats regroupés des employés municipaux de la Ville de Longueuil (SREM-CUPE 306) announced that they have reached a tentative agreement. At a general meeting on July 17, 95% of aquatic sector employees of the City of Longueuil rejected the employer’s offers. The pressure tactics under consideration at the time could even have resulted in a strike, shutting down the City’s 25 pools.
“The strike was scheduled for Monday, August 13, but an intense day of negotiations on Friday finally paid off and will maintain peace in the working environment,” claimed CUPE union representative Mathieu Lauzon. This agreement must now be ratified by Union members at a meeting and by the municipal organizations concerned.
Details of the agreement will be made public at the official signing, which will put an end to two and a half years of bargaining.
