Children and families will continue to suffer because they still won’t get the quality child care system that they need and deserve under the Liberal plan.

Tentative steps by the Liberals have led to various funding agreements that are uneven, fail to ensure adequate long-term public funding and don’t address accountability measures on the part of the provinces.

We need a quality, universal, accessible, inclusive, affordable and non-profit child care system in Canada. The Liberal plan doesn’t get us there. And the Conservative proposal of giving families $1,200 per child a year would completely undermine the efforts of achieving a comprehensive, non-profit public child care system.

We need stable, long-term funding and planning to build a public and accountable child care system that provides for all children and families.
