Play key to growing better futures for children.

PERTH, ON – Growing better futures for at-risk children is a priority for the front line staff, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 2577), at the Lanark Children’s Aid Society (CAS). That is why on Tuesday, June 14 (12:30 p.m.), the child welfare workers will be making a donation toward a new playground at Stewart Public School.

While our job is to help protect at-risk children, we believe that play is very important to children’s healthy development. As child welfare workers we are committed to improving the lives of all children in our community,” said Mike Burt, CUPE 2577 president, who will be presenting the cheque donation to the Stewart school principal Daryl Kelly.

Although the Stewart Public School has a large yard, it is devoid of play structures and fitness equipment. Proposed plans for the new playground include an outdoor classroom, additional seating in shaded pockets, a variety of fitness and play structures, a large sandbox, an outdoor volleyball net, smaller soccer nets and a garden.
