(Truro) – Plans by the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board to sell off the remainder of its cafeteria operations will be front and center at tonight’s Board meeting in North River.

CUPE Local 3890 will be making a presentation to the Board on why they should not privatize the 16 school cafeterias. The Board received a detailed brief from the union last week, containing arguments against the plan.

(ATTENTION ASSIGNMENT EDITORS: THE BOARD MEETING BEGINS AT 7:00 PM AT NORTH RIVER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON MOUNTAIN LEE ROAD OFF HIGHWAY 311. SCHOOL BOARD WORKERS WILL BE HANDING OUT LEAFLETS TO THE PUBLIC, STARTING AT 6:30 PM IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL. COPIES OF THE LOCAL 3890 PRESENTATION WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE MEETING.)

Local 3890 represents some 400 full-time and part-time school board workers at the Chignecto Board.

The plan would result in the cafeterias in 16 Colchester-East Hants schools no longer being run by the Board. It would take place by the end of this school year.

CUPE is urging all concerned parents and community members to attend tonight’s Board meeting and make their feelings known.
