Patients and their families, health care workers and community representatives have joined forces to try to stop the closure of Chedoke Hospital in Hamilton.

Thousands have signed a petition opposing the move by Hamilton Health Sciences to close continuing care beds, outpatient physiotherapy clinics and addition programs at the community hospital. On December 3, a candlelight vigil is planned.

These cuts were announced under the slogan Caring within our means, says CUPE Local 4800 President Mike Walters. Were they implying that in Hamilton, a city of more than half a million people, we cant afford to care for people with addictions or cant offer physiotherapy services to people who dont have the means to pay at a clinic?
