A late night session with the government-appointed mediator on Tuesday April 3 resulted in a new tentative agreement. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4207-Unit 3 is pleased to announce that it has ratified its first collective agreement with Brock University.

The agreement addresses our concerns about job security,” said Dan Crow, president of the local. “We have found a way to change the language, which the employer found objectionable, without changing the strength of the job security provisions. In fact, the deal we made on Tuesday is superior to what the employer offered just prior to the strike.”

The employer ratified the agreement the next afternoon. “After the fiasco arising out of the employer’s first ratification vote, we insisted that they ratify first this time,” said Crow. “With knowledge that the employer had, in fact, ratified this time, the members of the union could be sure that a ‘yes’ vote on our side would result in a finalized collective agreement.” The newly-ratified agreement expires in July of 2014.
