Surrey is the largest and fastest growing school district in the province. But our public schools are being neglected.
Surrey School District staff dedicated to maintaining public schools and grounds has barely increased in decades. Instead, the District has chosen to get outside, for-profit contractors to do the work.
Many of these for-profit contractors don’t have the qualifications or are subject to the same background checks as Surrey School District staff. To maximize profits, corners are being cut and the work isn’t getting done properly. In some instances, contracted out work needs to be redone by District staff to make it safe for students.
Properly maintained safe public schools are an invaluable asset to our community. The Surrey School District has a responsibility to protect this asset for generations of students and families to come.
Surrey public schools, and the students and families that depend on them, deserve better.
