On Monday, February 27, BC Teachers’ Federation members will participate in a Day of Action to respond to the provincial government fact finder’s report on BCTF/BCPSEA bargaining. CUPE fully supports the BCTF and their locals in their struggle to maintain free collective bargaining in British Columbia.

CUPE members are encouraged to participate wherever possible to show our support in their actions.

The Day of Action will see BCTF members work bell-to-bell, and attend lunch-time school-based union meetings to review the report and plan further action. BCTF locals may also hold after school demonstrations.

On February 9, Education Minister George Abbott announced that Trevor Hughes, assistant deputy minister of labour relations, had been asked to speak to the parties and submit a report on the likelihood of a negotiated settlement being reached with the teachers. His report is set to be released tomorrow (February 23).
