CUPE National President Judy Darcy and CUPE Ontario president Sid Ryan rallied teaching assistants at Carleton University last week as they prepared for a strike.

The TA’s, members of CUPE 4600, are fighting for protection against rising tuition costs and fair wages, as well as limits on class sizes to better serve students as the double cohort enters university.

The university has offered other CUPE workers - including clerical, admin support, technical, custodial and maintenance workers - reasonable settlements, but are hanging tough on with the teaching assistants.

You can help the Carleton TAs by e-mailing Richard Van Loon, the university president at richard_van_loon@carleton.ca. Tell him to offer a fair deal to teaching assistants.
