TORONTO – Aurora outside workers, members of CUPE 905, will hold an information picket on Tuesday, May 25 at 6 p.m.

We’ll be taking our position to the people and town council,” said, Derek Bakshi, president of CUPE 905. “We work extremely hard for the municipality and the people of Aurora, yet are being treated badly. Members of our Aurora unit (and the Whitchurch Stouffville unit), are the lowest paid in the region.”

The CUPE 905 collective agreement with the Town of Aurora expired on March 31, 2010, talk began in February 2010 and have gone well.

We are only asking to be brought up to the average wage of other outside workers in the Region.”

However, this issue is not being seriously addressed. While we sit at the bottom of the Region’s wage scale there are eight senior managers with the Town who earn over $100,000 with additional benefits paying as high as $7,456.91.”

Guest speakers will include leadership of CUPE 905 and experts on municipal government and bargaining.
