They heard from CUPE National President Paul Moist who pledged the union’s full support in fighting the cuts. Moist told the flight attendants the cuts make no economic sense, and he will be demanding a meeting with the Federal Minister of Labour to try and overturn Air Canada’s decision to lay off workers in Halifax and in Winnipeg.

NDP Leader, Darrell Dexter wanted to know why Nova Scotia Premier, Rodney MacDonald had not spoken out about the cuts and why he did not think today’s rally was important enough to attend.

Flight attendants also heard from their Local President Lisa Vivian Anthony who said that the Halifax flight attendants were going to take every possible legal action to hold Air Canada to account for their decision on the base closures.

Anthony spoke of the 32 years of service that her employees have provided to the traveling public in Atlantic Canada.
