After over a year of bargaining, CUPE 3812, the union representing cash managers with GardaWorld, officially ratified a new collective agreement.
This ratification marks the end of a long bargaining process that led to this historic agreement, which made these employees among the best paid in their sector in Canada.
“The promises to improve the work environment must now be translated into concrete action,” said Nathalie Courchesne, CUPE representative. “We’ve done our part at the bargaining table; now it’s up to management to instill this change in organizational culture.”
But, beyond the numbers, this ratification represents a positive turning point in labour relations. A new human resources team is now in place, and the parties are committed to working together in a spirit of respect, cooperation and recognition of the vital role cash messengers play in ensuring public and economic safety.
“Our members stood firm, united in solidarity,” said Kathryn R. Cloutier, union president. “This ratification is proof that determination pays off, literally and symbolically.”
CUPE will remain vigilant to ensure that the employer’s commitments carry over into cash messengers’ day-to-day work, a demanding, essential and often underappreciated profession.
