CUPE members at Hydro Qub0065c are determined to fight the utilitys impending decision to shut down a remote monitoring station in Saguenay and move 30 jobs out of the region.
The move would take good jobs out of an economically depressed region.
Previous initiatives to move technology and infrastructure out of the region have proven to be costly failures. Worse still, this restructuring has resulted in the loss of dozens of jobs.
The move flies in the face of the Qub0065c governments stated intention of providing support to the regions and encouraging young people to stay there.
