CUPE has won the fight to keep Hydro One public. The Ontario government has cancelled its plans to privatize part of the provinces electricity transmission grid plans that had already been derailed by a CUPE and Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union court challenge. The victory is a warning to governments in New Brunswick and British Columbia, where deregulation and privatization are still on the agenda. In Ontario, CUPE will continue to back the fight of grassroots groups in communities, working with the Ontario Electricity Coalition to reverse the deregulation of electricity prices and selloff of power generation.
