FORT MCMURRAY – The union representing about 100 employees at TOK transit is supporting a move by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to operate transit services directly as a municipal service.

The municipality has activated a 90 day cancellation policy in its contract with TOK. Existing TOK employees will be kept on by the city in their current positions.

CUPE 1505 President Les Collins says public services are always better delivered directly by municipalities rather than private contractors.

“It’s a positive move that will be beneficial to taxpayers,” said Collins. “Bringing transit in house saves money and allows for service improvements.”
