At a special meeting on October 19, employees with the aquatic sector in Brossard unanimously voted in favour of a tentative agreement reached by the Town of Brossard and SREM CUPE 306, the union representing amalgamated unions of municipal employees.

The five-year contract, which runs from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2025, includes several new premiums, a reduced probationary period, a guarantee of the number of hours in the work schedule and the addition, for monitors, of preparation periods for paid aquatic courses.

In addition, the union obtained a 100-hour bank of time for union business to organize future negotiations and the creation of a joint occupational health and safety committee, which will be specifically dedicated to the union accreditation of lifeguards.

The new agreement calls for wage hikes of 2.5% and a lump sum of 1.75% for 2021. These figures rise to 2.75% and 3.25% respectively in 2022. Finally, for 2023 to 2025, the corresponding percentages are 2.75% and 2.5% per year.

Note that the parties also negotiated a trailer clause whereby the employer will automatically pay higher gains or benefits which other Brossard accredited unions may obtain.
