Canadian pride in our public health care system grew when it was expanded to include dental care and pharmacare under the supply and confidence agreement the NDP struck with the last Liberal government.
But a sense of urgency and frustration is now growing as we witness the slow implementation of these new programs, while our acute and long term health care systems are unraveling.
The federal government needs to ensure every dollar goes to public care. Public dollars in the form of federal transfer payments are flowing out of the public system and into private, for-profit clinics and service providers. Putting more federal funding into public health care is a smart investment.
