People in Canada are struggling to access a family doctor, child care, and a home they can afford. Why? Because for decades, federal governments have refused to invest in public services, tax wealthy corporations, and put people first.

Now, the Liberal government has a chance to act. But instead, like Donald Trump and other right-wing politicians, they are looking for someone to blame. They are using migrant workers and international students — our friends, neighbours, coworkers, and community members — as scapegoats for housing shortages and underfunded services.

With the Liberal government’s immigration changes, hundreds of CUPE workers could lose their status and be forced to leave Canada this year. These harmful new policies will be devastating for communities that are already struggling. Sectors such as health care, child care, education, and long-term care — all already in crisis — will be strained even further. These cuts will hurt you, your family, and the very communities we all live in.

Join CUPE in calling on the Liberal government to:

  • Reverse harmful immigration cuts

  • Expand access to permanent residency and renew work permits

  • End the exploitative closed work permit system

  • Invest in public services instead of scapegoating migrants and students

  • Stop Bill C-2, which makes it easier to deport migrants and international students and violates the rights of refugees
