York Region long-term care workers have been on the frontlines of healthcare, taking care of the vulnerable and elderly members of families across Ontario. They bring pride, knowledge, professionalism, and emotional intelligence to their jobs daily. Over the years, however, their employer has allowed conditions to deteriorate on every front. Workers increase their expertise as time goes on, yet wages are not nearly keeping up with the skyrocketing costs of food and housing. Long-term care workers who can see a lack of resources and a need for serious reforms are ignored or disciplined if they speak up. Unfair reprisals have created a culture of fear in these homes. They are chronically understaffed and hence workers are burnt out. All of this negatively affects residents, who do not receive the quality of care they deserve.
Please help us by signing the email petition below. This will be sent out to a series of local city councillors and mayors who have direct influence over these negotiations. Please share this with your friends and family. With all our voices united we can help make a difference in long-term care for both residents and workers.
