As Parliament returns, a lot is on the line.
The Liberal government is proposing deep, across-the-board budget cuts — slashing spending by 15% — in a move that would help corporations and hurt everyday people.
Public services and good jobs across Canada are already under threat from Donald Trump’s economic sabotage. The last thing we need is for Mark Carney to pile on with cuts that would erode the very services that make Canada, Canada.
Instead of investing in health care, housing, child care, and the services that people rely on, the government is choosing CEOs over communities — protecting profits while gutting frontline supports.
That’s why CUPE is speaking out — and we need you with us.
Add your name in support of CUPE’s key recommendation to the Liberal government:
-
Cancel the cuts: Scrap the 15% austerity plan that would gut public services and eliminate tens of thousands of good jobs.
-
Strengthen health care: Boost federal health transfers, enforce the Canada Health Act, implement pharmacare, and pass a Safe Long-term Care Act.
-
Tackle the housing crisis: Build public and non-profit housing, protect affordable rentals, and stop corporate profiteering in housing.
-
Support workers: Reform EI, strengthen migrant worker protections, and fully fund the Canada Disability Benefit.
-
Invest in families: Increase funding for child care and prioritize non-profit centres.
-
Ensure tax fairness: Restore the corporate tax rate to 21%, implement a wealth tax, and close corporate loopholes.
-
Build green public infrastructure: Invest in public transit, energy grids, and social infrastructure — not private profits.
