CUPE 1698 members have voted in favour of ratifying their new collective agreement with the Fraser Valley Regional Library, FVRL. The FVRL’s board also ratified the agreement late last week.

The Fraser Valley Regional Library, FVRL, has issued 72-hour lockout notice to CUPE 1698 members who provide library services across the region. If the employer proceeds with a lockout, children, families, and community members who rely on their local libraries will lose access to critical services and supports.

CUPE 2087 members have voted 100% in favour of strike action, in a vote held on Wednesday, March 4.

Sienna Senior living is one of Canada’s most profitable long-term care providers. Despite the recently announced $4.9 billion investment from the Ontario government to help with staffing and retention for PSWs, Sienna has made the regrettable decision to cut 1,300 full time hours from their schedule at the Case Manor facility in Bobcaygeon, in violation of the workers collective agreement and despite this newly announced funding.

Today outside workers in Kirkland, QC, just outside of Montreal, launched a 48-hour strike, slated from Wednesday, March 4, at 12:01 a.m. to Thursday, March 5, at 11:59 p.m., to protest a year-long stalemate in bargaining.

The day before a 48-hour outside-worker strike begins in Kirkland, a foreman has assaulted a CUPE 301 representative near the public works building. The incident took place as a dozen outside workers were putting up stickers to explain the conflict in the talks to renew the collective agreement.

The Ontario School Board Council of Unions, OSBCU, representing over 57,000 education workers in more than 60 locals across Ontario, are urging the Ford government and Education Minister Paul Calandra to begin collective bargaining with unions as soon as possible, as severe underfunding and chronic staffing shortages continue to harm students and education workers across Ontario.
