Glen Haven Manor Votes to Strike

Glen Haven Manor long-term care workers, represented by CUPE 2330, have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike mandate, with 100% of ballots casted voting in favour. Like their fellow CUPE 2330 bargaining units—Maritime Odd Fellows and Valley View Villa—, they are calling for improved wages and recruitment and retention initiatives.

Municipal workers in Victoria, B.C. ratify new collective agreement

Over 1,200 workers for the Capital Regional District, CRD, in Victoria, B.C., have ratified a new collective agreement. Members of CUPE 1978 voted in favour of ratifying the agreement reached on February 24, after 12 months of bargaining.

Long-term care workers from Valley View Villa in Nova Scotia, represented by CUPE 2330, have held strike votes, with 100% of those who voted casting ballots in favour of a strike mandate. Injury and deaths being investigated in privatized paid plasma centres

Health Canada is reviewing the deaths of two paid plasma donors related to Grifols plasma collection centres in Winnipeg. These come after a third donor filed a lawsuit alleging he suffered permanent kidney damage after giving plasma at one of those collection centres. Grifols facilities in Calgary and Regina have recently also failed inspections by Health Canada, including by not accurately assessing donors’ suitability.

CUPE has made many important gains in recent years, but there is still a lot at stake for its 20,000 members across 11 Canadian airlines.
