Our National Executive Board (NEB) met a number of times by videoconference over the summer in order to monitor and discuss the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our members and our union.

It has been six months since the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic; since that time, all aspects of our lives – whether work, social or community – have been altered in ways most of us could never have imagined.We face new challenges around every corner.

Our September National Executive Board meeting marks six months into the seismic shift caused by the global pandemic hitting Canada. As is the case for unions across the world, CUPE faces unprecedented challenges. I continue to be extremely proud of the dedication and commitment of our leaders, members and staff as we find creative and innovative solutions to our new reality.

The Health and Safety Learning Series gives members a wide range of knowledge and skills related to workplace health and safety.

This newly updated and fillable form allows local union activists to systematically file grievances with their employer, including space to fill in information about the violation, action or redress sought, as well as to provide information about the grievance’s resolution.

Shortly after our last National Executive Board meeting in March 2020, our world was suddenly upended, and we found ourselves in the middle of a global pandemic. Just like most of the rest of the world, CUPE National, our chartered bodies, our workplaces and communities have faced unprecedented challenges. I am astounded by the resilience of our members and staff as we have faced these challenges together.

It is pretty surreal to try and put into words just how much has changed since my last report to you in March – and just how much work our union has done to address those changes in the last three months.
