Despite ongoing negotiations, the parties remain far apart on key issues, including wages and sick leave. Our wages are below the sector average, and we cannot bank sick leave. When educators become seriously ill, they are forced to rely on employment insurance to make ends meet. This is not sustainable for the dedicated professionals who care for your children each day.

Workers are also seeking improvements to working conditions that will directly enhance the quality of care your children receive, including more dedicated time for programming.

Let us be clear: we do not want to interrupt services. We love the work we do, and we know how essential this daycare is to families. But without meaningful movement at the bargaining table, workers will have no choice but to take further action to secure a fair agreement.

Our local has held a strike vote and is preparing for a strike if necessary. This is not a step we take lightly. It is a last resort. A fair deal now can prevent disruption later.

Please take a moment to send a letter to the employer and let them know you support a fair and timely agreement for CUPE Local 2484 workers that respects workers, protects families from disruption, and strengthens Balmy Beach Day Care for the future.
