Who are we?
CUPE 5080 members are early childhood educators, childcare providers, and cook at the Melfort Daycare Co-operative.
Our members work tirelessly to ensure the children we care for are safe, healthy, and learning each day. We take pride in the care we provide and the relationships we have built with each family in the centre.
Supporting the community
CUPE 5080 members provide vital care and learning for our youngest citizens — supporting parents, strengthening the workforce, and building a brighter future for our community.
The Melfort Daycare Co-operative is not willing to negotiate a fair deal.
We believe every child deserves a stable, nurturing environment, and that begins with a workplace where staff feel valued and supported. When child care workers are supported, families and communities flourish.
This has been a difficult round of bargaining. As child care workers and members of CUPE 5080, we are committed to providing the best care for the children in our centre, but we also need fair treatment in our workplace.
Our employer is proposing changes that would:
❌ Disregard seniority
❌ Offer unequal wage increases — some staff would receive no raise at all
❌ Remove language that ensures all wages increase when minimum wage does
We’re asking for fairness, respect, and working conditions that reflect the value of the work we do — for your children and for our community.
