The Carney Liberals have rushed Bill C-5 through Parliament. Backed by Poilievre’s Conservatives, this legislation puts corporate interests ahead of workers, public services, and Indigenous rights.
Bill C-5 calls differences between provinces “trade barriers” — but what it really does is let weaker standards in one province drag everyone else down.
Instead of raising standards for all Canadians, it opens the door to a race to the bottom — especially in public services like child care and health care.
This is an assault on the things working people depend on.
It also gives the federal cabinet to approve major infrastructure — like pipelines — without proper consultation with Indigenous communities or environmental review.
Join CUPE in calling on the federal government to rethink Bill C-5. We need real conversations with unions and Indigenous peoples about building a strong economy that protects public services and supports working people.
