Workers at EarlyOn who are part of the Ottawa Catholic School Board offer free programs for families for children aged 0 to 6 years old. These workers bring years of experience, a deep understanding of child development, and a passion for empowering families. Whether it’s connecting them with resources, finding emotional support, or just knowing they’re not alone, these workers provide a valuable a lifeline for the children and families they work with.
Unfortunately, since this group unionized in spring 2024, their employer has engaged in severe anti-union tactics and bargained in bad faith, prompting the submission of an unfair labour practice. New hires are being paid over 9 percent less than current workers are.
These workers are predominately women and none work more than 30 hours a week, requiring many of them to work second jobs.
