After a ratification vote that received 85% support, the union representing the 215 inside and outside workers in Boisbriand (CUPE 4238) signed earlier today a new seven-year collective agreement that runs from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2028.
“Efforts were made over the 17 months of negotiations to come up with win-win conditions for everyone. The parties were respectful and honest in their exchanges with one another. We managed to strike a balance between the Town’s needs and our members’ demands,” explained Éric Labelle, president of CUPE 4238.
Wage hikes of 4% were negotiated for 2022 and 2023. For the remaining years of the agreement, members will be entitled to a minimum of 2.5% up to a maximum of 3%, with the figure contingent on the CPI. Other premiums and allowances were enhanced.
“We’re satisfied with the results we obtained because by accepting the flexibility the municipality needed to offer adequate service to the citizens of Boisbriand, we managed to negotiate clauses that improve the wages and working conditions of our workers,” said CUPE union representative Rima Chébib.
Other gains include four-day weeks for outside workers, flexible schedules and terms regarding teleworking for inside workers. To maintain and ensure quality service to the public, the bargaining committee agreed to add a shift during weekends in Public Works so that services are provided seven days per week.
