The ten blue-collar and white-collar employees of the Municipality of East Broughton in the Beauce have a new contract, which was signed yesterday by representatives of the union and the municipality, whose population is about 2,250.
Several gains were achieved, particularly time for union business, improvements to leave and vacation days and contributions to the pension plan.
The job classifications were revamped, and the new contract called for wage increases totalling, on average, 4% for 2023 and between 3% and 3.5% for subsequent years, all of which includes inflation protection corresponding to 0.5% of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
“In spite of the parties’ history of arduous negotiations, but this time, they went well. Whenever both parties are willing to pitch in to make things happen, anything is possible,” declared CUPE representative Mario Jean.
The new collective agreement, which runs for five years, replaces the previous one that expired on December 31, 2022.
