With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, blue-collar workers with the City of Rimouski are taking part in an activity to raise visibility and support the cause to fight this type of cancer.
In addition to making a donation to the Fondation cancer du sein du Québec for research, members will be wearing pink vests all day instead of their orange ones.
“It’s a great activity to mobilize members to support an excellent cause. All of us have been directly or indirectly affected by someone who has developed breast cancer. It is somewhat reminiscent of the labour movement in that when each of us together pitch in a little something, we will one day put an end to this scourge,” explained Yan Dupont-Smith, president of the union representing Rimouski blue-collar workers (CUPE 5275).
This activity came to fruition thanks to the contribution by the City of Rimouski administration..
“We hope that our blue-collar workers who are wearing pink for the day will touch thousands of Rimouski residents,” said Dupont-Smith.
