In the midst of unprecedented increases in gas prices and broader inflation, the April 2022 mileage adjustment for Manitoba clinical Home Care staff and health care employees, was only increased two (2) cents from $0.43 to $0.45. This mileage rate is nearly 36% lower than the Canada Revenue Agency mileage rate for 2022 of $0.61.
Home Care workers in the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) spend their days driving to client homes to provide essential care using personal vehicles. The Home Care system greatly reduces costs to the Health Region and the Government of Manitoba by providing care in client homes instead of health facilities.
The Manitoba government mileage rate undercuts Home Care and other vital services and contributes to the unprecedented staffing crisis in Home Care in the WRHA, which has led to hundreds of client visit cancellations every week.
On top of this, these workers have not had a new contract for five years.
Let’s help our health care heroes. Send an email to the government to call for action!
