Carleton Business School professor Linda Duxbury wowed a crowd of 150 delegates at the opening plenary of CUPE’s first ever national social services meeting.
Duxbury enthralled delegates with a mixture of humour and hard facts. She focused on generational differences and danger to organizations, including unions, that don’t pay heed to the signs of change in today’s workplaces.
Duxbury was a perfect choice to open a conference of
workers who often work with the marginalized and whose work is too
often ignored. Her message to government and to employers is clearly
that without greater emphasis on work-life balance a healthy future for
Canada is in peril.
The national meeting carries on today wth a panel presentation this
morning, (November 22) an afternoon presentation by Francoise David,
followed by an afrternoon workshop focussing on how to best tell the
social servcies story and who to tell it to.l
The meeting continues until Friday, November 23rd.
