The Timmins hospital needs a new building, and hospital management is looking to the private sector for partners. The new facility would provide dialysis and other patient care, as well as space for specialists to practice. According to media reports, the hospital hopes to move quickly, confirming any private sector interest in the next few weeks with an eye to the facility opening in January 2004.
The facility would become Ontario’s fourth planned P3 hospital. The Royal Ottawa and William Osler hospitals have issued requests for proposals, and a P3 hospital in Uxbridge continues to loom as a threat. CUPE’s Ontario Council of Hospital Unions is leading the fight to stop for-profit hospitals in Ontario.
