Who: Local 1418 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, representing social workers and 12 other groups of front-line professionals.
What: Rallies in several cities across the province.
Where: Moncton – Office of Joan MacAlpine, Minister of Family and Community Services, 1077 St George St.
Fredericton - Bradly Green, 83 Regent St.
Bathurst – Office of Joel Bernard, MLA, 360 Parkside Drive
Tracadie-Sheila – Office of Elvy Robichaud, Minister of Health, 422 Arseneau St.
Campbellton – CN Building
When: Monday, June 10, 2002, 12:15-12:45pm
Why: A series of public events are being organized, to raise public awareness and in an effort to avoid a strike. There are still too few staff to provide adequate care to vulnerable New Brunswickers who need help. The government has consistently refused to address this problem in a way that will have a lasting effect.
Recruitment and retention of staff and wages are other outstanding issues. Results of the strike vote will be announced on June 17.
