Part-time school bus drivers with Hanmer Bus Lines in Sudbury, Ontario have gone on strike to fight demands for a wage rollback and dozens of other contract concessions. The members of CUPE Local 895 all of them women and earning $215 a week to drive school buses for three hours a day, five days a week began their strike Easter Monday (April 13).

They took their message straight to the company owners front door last week. Hes a local Sudbury dentist so they set up a day-long information picket in front of his dental office. They handed out flyers to his patients on the way in, which asked the question “Why is a Sudbury dentist, the majority of whose patients are union members with dental plans, trying to bust the union at Hanmer Bus Lines?”
