At a general membership meeting this morning members of CUPE 5490, representing flight attendants at Pascan Aviation, voted unanimously in favour of a new collective agreement, bringing to an end a labour conflict that dragged on for more than a year.
The new agreement includes many important improvements for the membership. Among other major gains, the maximum hourly rate of pay will rise from $26.41 to $39.21 by the end of the contract. The contract also includes a new group registered retirement savings plan (RRSP), improvements to scheduling aimed at improving work-life balance and improvements to contract language around rest periods.
“After months of mobilizing, bargaining and sacrifices, our members can be proud of the progress they made. They stood up for themselves and fought to have the value of their work recognized and to improve their working conditions in keeping with their essential contribution to regional air transportation,” said Jessé Vigneault, president of CUPE 5490.
The union highlighted the fact that it was thanks to their solidarity and determination throughout the bargaining process that the flight attendants were able to achieve this agreement. The flight attendants are set to return to work on November 30.
