Blue-collar workers to have notable presence at Grand Prix

Montreal blue-collar workers will have a notable presence and visibility at the Grand Prix! In addition to displaying the Grand Prix colors, trucks from the borough of Ville-Marie will be carrying an important message for Montrealers: The Grand Prix for Montrealers is us!

“We have a message for residents and non-tourists! We want this important event to go well for the economic benefits it brings to our community. It would not be a success without the labour and hard work of blue-collar workers, and it’s important to remind people of that,” said Nicolas De Ciccio, president of the Syndicat des cols bleus regroupés de Montréal (CUPE 301).

The real prize, the ‘Grand Prix’ are the quality services we provide at the best price. Blue-collar workers want to remind everyone that Montreal is better served by its own employees than by private companies that always want to make more profits.

“We are in solution mode. We have in fact proposed bringing work back in house that has been contracted out at a high price, in keeping with the Inspector General’s office which has denounced privatization and contracting out, as they tend to create monopolies and increase costs for taxpayers,” explained the president.

Blue-collar workers are currently in bargaining for a new contract. Their collective agreement expired on December 31, 2024. Bargaining meetings are set to take place in the coming weeks.
