Education

Our schools should be safe, supportive environments where our children have equal opportunities to learn, and have the resources they need to succeed. Federal and provincial contributions to per-student funding are falling behind, leaving school boards under enormous pressure. Public dollars are also being diverted to private schools and profit-making schemes like public-private partnerships (P3s) in the education sector.

More than half of all education workers across Canada - over 160,000 workers - are CUPE members.  They represent every classification in the school system except teachers and management, and play an essential role in delivering quality public education. CUPE members are fighting to defend the public school system through collective bargaining, political action, and community organizing.
