Workers’ voice in politics, government and community.

CUPE members are an important part of our communities. As citizens with a stake in public services, they want and deserve a say in the decisions that affect their neighbours, friends and family.

By being active in municipal, provincial and federal politics, CUPE can achieve positive change for our members and all Canadians.

We do this work every day, not just during elections. We defend the interests of workers at the bargaining table and in society to ensure our voices are heard. We talk and work with political leaders, coalitions and community partners, and all Canadians to make our communities better places to live.

We work closely with the New Democratic Party to make sure governments hear the voice of Canadian workers. As a founding partner in the NDP, we are a vital part of our democracy.

CUPE is a founding partner of the NDP. We are proud to be New Democrats. Working closely with our party has given CUPE members from coast to coast to coast a strong voice in Canadian politics. Together, CUPE and the NDP can achieve positive change for our members and all Canadians.

Committee members

National Political Action Committee

The National Political Action Committee works to build CUPE’s political action capacity in every region, providing advice on effective lobbying and mobilization on federal, provincial and municipal political issues. They encourage members and staff to join and be active in the NDP and in friendly coalitions. Integrating political action into all aspects of union work is a major goal for this committee.

Federal Budget 2022: Summary and analysis

The 2022 Federal Budget made some progress on key issues that are important to CUPE members, such as dental care, but did not go far enough in others. While the NDP’s influence clearly played a role in holding the Liberals to some of their promises, it is clear that we must continue to put pressure on this government to provide funding for the services that Canadians need. CUPE Research has analyzed the budget in key interest areas for CUPE members.
