CUPE has long advocated for the disability justice and the need to end poverty among people with disabilities. The poverty rate for people with disabilities is twice as high as the rate for people who don’t have disabilities.
The federal government recently announced funding for the Canada Disability Benefit. However, this amount is much lower than what is necessary to lift people out of poverty.
