Congratulations to CUPE 1560, representing secretaries and
maintenance staff in the Avalon East Region, on being awarded Corporate
Citizen of the Year by the Terra Nova Council 1452 of the Knights of
Columbus. The award was presented to the union local for their efforts in
assisting the K of C in their many community activities and programs.
We talked in depth about community involvement and how we
can work with our community groups to build stronger ties between ourselves
and those who depend on our services. Local 1560 has built a tremendous
relationship with the Knights, which is the talk of the town. In fact, our
Local reps discussed how to further build our community
ties with the Knights on October 5 of this year, during our National
Rebuilding Strong Communities drive. I’ve since discussed this initiative
with the Local Executive. We have many great ideas in the works for October 5.
In Solidarity,
Derrick Barrett
President
CUPE Local 1560
Eastern School District.
