(Halifax) Sixteen current or retired members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees will be running in the October 16, 2004 municipal and school board elections in Nova Scotia, a record number for the public sector union.

CUPE Nova Scotia President Betty Jean Sutherland says, This is a sign of a healthy democracy when we can have this many public employees throwing their hats into the political arena. It also shows Nova Scotians that CUPE members care about protecting our public services and about the kind of communities we live in. We commend all of these candidates for making a commitment to their communities.
