TORONTO A group of employers and unions will launch an unprecedented joint campaign tomorrow calling on the province to reinvest in community-based, nonprofit social services.
According to a report that will be released at 10 a.m. at Queens Park, the provinces community social service infrastructure is poised to buckle under the load of:
- inadequate and restrictive funding, which has been flatlined for at least eight years
- growing program delivery expectations
- increased demand for services from families and individuals resulting from cuts to welfare, social housing, child care, health and education.
Representatives from a variety of organizations, including CUPE Ontario, OPSEU, UNITE!, YWCA Toronto, Family Services Association, Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants and several Toronto neighbourhood centres, will be available for comment.
