8,000 people mainly CUPE members but also supervisors have taken CUPEs harassment course in the last year, on paid management time. 5,000 of those have been in Ontario. This exciting development is the result mainly of negotiated contract language or of grievance or arbitration settlements and we are being invited by employers all across the country to present to management as well as to our members.

For example, in BC, we provided a Respect in the Workplace training session for the Queen Charlotte School District mandated from contract language in the CUPE agreement. In Alberta, we have so far trained more than 500 people, both union and management, of Locals 1505 and 41, in harassment courses. In Saskatchewan, we have had seven joint training sessions, primarily in the health care sector. In Ontario, joint harassment awareness workshops have reached hundreds of members in Timmins, Ottawa, Sudbury, Englehart, Cochrane, and Kirkland Lake. Several other workshops are planned for Sault Ste. Marie and Moosonee. In Nova Scotia, joint harassment awareness workshops are planned for the fall in the nursing homes and school boards sectors. In addition, the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation has requested that we present stress management workshops in the workplace in the fall.
