Delta, B.C.s civic employees, members of CUPE local 454 are organizing a series of periodic workplace actions in their fight for a new contract.

The 700 employees have been without a contract for 15 months. About 250 employees walked off their jobs on Friday, April 24th for a one-day information picket.

The city is asking the union for major concessions in the bargaining talks. Local president Joe Badali said among the concessions sought by management is one that would exclude more positions from the union membership and enlarge management ranks.

Badali said management also wants to change the disciplinary provisions of the contract to exclude union representation for a worker when he or she is first confronted by management with a complaint.

More jobs actions are being planned. The National Representative working with the local is Connie Credico.
